Repeating this loop of prototyping, testing, and gathering user feedback is crucial for making sure the design is right — that is, it works for customers, you can build it, and you can support it. Infeasible ideas can generate useful solutions, but you’d never get there if you shoot down every impractical idea from the start. It is also important to interview and understand other stakeholders, like people selling the product, or those who are supporting the users throughout the product life cycle. With design thinking, throwing out what you think you know and starting from scratch opens up all kinds of possibilities.

The R&D team at Wilson put their minds together and came up with a pretty ingenious design. Why would you undertake a deep study of engineering design, or the design process, when you could go about design on your own and learn from your own experience? There is value to be gained from studying design, and I want to add my own take on why studying design is an important complement to hands-on experience.
